This guide, or handbook, for Senior Wardens was written by Most Worshipful Brother Dwight L. Smith, Past Grand Master of Masons in Indiana (1945-46) and Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Indiana, (1947-79). Look Well originally appeared in monthly serial form in The Indiana Freemason in 1975. Most Worshipful Brother Smith is the most qualified individual in the history of the Craft in Indiana to author such a work as this. As Grand Secretary for more than thirty years, he has worked with nearly 17,000 Senior Wardens. For several years the Dean of Grand Secretaries in North America, he is Past President of the Conference of Grand Secretaries in North America and served as Secretary-Treasurer of that body for twenty-one years. He is the most widely known Masonic author and lecturer in Indiana, and among the best known in North America. His crowning literary achievement, Goodly Heritage, was published by the Grand Lodge of Indiana on January 12, 1968. It is a scholarly and interesting history of the first one hundred fifty years of Speculative Freemasonry in Indiana. Most Worshipful Brother Smith wrote Look Well at the request of the undersigned, who is deeply indebted to him for his many acts of kindness and for his cherished friendship spanning more than twentv vears. Senior Wardens who read this guide will be inspired by its contents to Look Well to the West, to prepare for the East and, most importantly, to Look Well within themselves. For within the Senior Warden lie the hopes for the future of his Lodge. So, when you look, Brother Senior Warden, Look Well! Fraternally, C. C. Faulkner, Jr., Deputy Grand Master (Chairman, 1974-78, Grand Lodge Committee on Masonic Education) |
